3 Practices Every Entrepreneur Should Adopt

Kelly Eidson, the cofounder of Moveline (a technology company that makes moving easier), gave a very insightful and honest talk at the Women 2.0 conference in Las Vegas, NV this past November. Women 2.0 generates content, community and events for aspiring and current women innovators in technology. Kelly gave three pieces of advice she’s learned throughout her journey that every entrepreneur can implement in their practices. Kelly’s talk delivered practical actionable strategies, and as I looked around the room, every single entrepreneur was fully engaged and taking notes.

Here are the three major tips Kelly shared with us:

1.) Never outsource your learning. Make sure to put in the time to research your company and industry. If you are going to run a company you need to be an expert in what you do! Instead of outsourcing all of your research, take the time to look at your analytics, look at the industry trends, and talk to your customers. Know your customers better than anyone and you will stand out amongst other companies. This is something investors will take into account and notice.

2.) Network with people unlike yourself. If you are a marketer and you only talk with other marketers, you only receive one point of view on your current operations and problems. By speaking with people in all types of industries, you can learn tricks and tactics in operations and look at problems from a different angle you might not have thought of. Entrepreneurs in other industries have been there and can offer innovative ways to simplify daily tasks.

3.) Scale your company and get out of the way. Empower your employees, remind them why the company started and make sure they have all the resources they need to do their job well. This is by far one of the most challenging realizations entrepreneurs face when scaling. Let those who do their jobs better become the leaders in their department, listen to their input, and focus on your role as founder by continuing to learn and looking at the larger picture for the company’s growth.
